Esplim - “What Can We Do”

“Esplim, a project by Rômulo Michaelsen, is a perfect example of what is possible to do (well) with only a guitar and a PC. With simple and well-written arrangements, abusing the ethereal pads and minimalist noises, the project takes us through a series of great names from the current post-rock scene. From the pianos and the hypnotic ambience of Sigur Rós, to the softly precise guitars of Mono. From this point on, with a slightly nostalgic tone, it brings us movie voices and whispers, with precise dialogues, reaffirming the intense link between feeling and music.”

s.o.m.a. é:
- André “Anti” - Baixo
- Lucas Lippaus Mateus - Guitarra
- Elvis Cantelli - Bateria

“Starting from speculations about the beginning of life and biological parallels, I concluded that, next to the instinct that preserves the substance of life together in great units, there should be another instinct, contrary to that, trying to dissolve those units and lead them back to their primeval inorganic state. This is to show that, like Eros, there is also an instinct of death, Thanatos. Life could be explained by the opposite action of these two instincts.” - Sigmund Freud

Sunday, June 28th 2009: Three young musicians enter a studio (using the chaotic subway stations in São Paulo) and record without interruption three hours of improvisation, showing influences ranging from Sonic Youth to Sigur Ros, and based on a great number of ideas that already were generated over a year.

Actually the band members live in different cities (Lucas lives in Campinas, Elvis lives in Indaiatuba, while André lives in São Paulo).

s.o.m.a. is:
- André “Anti” - Bass

In 2008, the group Monodecks was formed in Luiz Pessoa’s studio to record the EP Monodecks, with 5 songs marked by compositions by Domingos Savio, a founding member and guitarist of the band. At the end of the recording process Luiz, already familiar with the group’s music, joined the band as bassist to replace Ramiro. This EP has a less experimental characterization and a more detailed recording of each instrument. As the band is comprised of 3 guitars, the contents of the EP floats in avant-garde guitar sounds and a new post-rock that differs from other mainstream bands. This disc shows a new concept of rock - or post-rock, as many tend to mention - where the imagination can bring new worlds to light. It is a tip for those who want to listen to something different and expand the auditory perception mixing with pictures and loads of other environments.

Labirinto is a group from São Paulo formed in 2003, from the wishes and experiences of friends that were trying to materialize their music influences through instrumental composition. Inspired by themes such as movies, moody songs and experimental bands, the group’s compositions try to create textures and musical imagery; like a soundtrack, but letting the listener create the scenes in their minds. Their harmonic constructions prioritize the emotions, the aesthetical labyrinth through which the songs perpass.

Labirinto was featured in short movies and videos made by independent artists, released three EPs, is recording the upcoming release Anátema for 2009, and has played several concerts throughout the brazilian “indie scene”.

Labirinto = Guitars + Bass + Cello + Drums + Pedals + Violin + Piano + Synths + Silence!

Etéreo EP presents two songs recorded in 2008 especially for the DIS1 compilation, while the third was recorded and released in 2007, which was now remixed for this EP. Etéreo shows a more dense and melancholic band, with long and hard-worked compositions. This is a sample of the Anátema album, yet to be released in late 2009.

Etéreo is a Dissenso-Sinewave cross-release.
