BLACK SEA It’s All About Our Silence Genre: Post-Metal 2009 - sinewave download (92MB)

Writing about bands that are starting their careers is a challenge, sometimes even embarassing. You never know how one will behave on what is about to happen.

But with their first EP, It’s All About Our Silence, Black Sea turned out to be a great surprise on the earphones of Brazil dwellers. Because it shows that there are people working to use their textures better, experiment new sounds and seize the possibility to dare new structures. Thus bringing in their essence the characteristics of what is known as “progressive metal”, or “prog-metal”.

If you could comprehend that music is one of the strongest expressions by human being, you will know that the sum of all these music genres has a lot to say. It’s in this context that the work of Black Sea is defined. A brief history as a band, but with the tenderness and density in the right amount. It’s music that transmits something, but it is open to interpretations and diverse sensations. The equilibrium between being and existing.

With songs that don’t say how to think, how to listen, but allows time for perception, for the moment, this first work is enough to create positive expectations of what is about to come.

This is the second and final part of our 2008 retrospective. Sinewave Essentials - The Rest of ‘08 compiles other songs from the seventeen artists we have released so far. This time the tracks were chosen by the Sinewave staff, making this a somewhat “Editor’s Choice” or “Director’s Cut” release.

We’re taking a break until January 2009. Stay tuned for some good news we have been working on these last few weeks.

That was inevitable. After six months of new albums being released on a weekly basis, we had to release a best of compilation. Eighteen tracks by seventeen unsigned independent Brazilians artists, ranging from the beauty and anger of our post-rock acts to the utmost artsy boundaries of our experimental projects. For newcomers, Sinewave Essentials - The Best of ‘08 proves that yes, we do have ever-growing content in the depths of the Brazilian indie scene. For longtime listeners, this is our 2008 highlights - the highlights that you were part of, by becoming instant small nodes of a mediatic network in need of constant retro-feeding.

Next week there’s the second part of this work. Next year there’s even more.

CIVILIAN Civilian Genre: Post-metal 2008 - sinewave download (24MB)

Formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in early 2008, Civilian is the musical project masterminded by Daniel Debarry and Fábio França, two friends who wanted to share their artistic visions and living experiences. Civilian’s debut EP consists in four conceptual songs, most of them instrumental with occasional vocals, based on an experimental concept and rooted in a post-metal aesthetic.
